Mrs Lacey Reception

Welcome to Reception’s class page!

The teachers in Reception are Miss Barker in Reception B and Mrs Lacey in Reception L. We also have Mrs Walsh, Miss Jeffrey, Miss Angela and Miss Kee!

In Reception we love to play and explore! We have lots of different areas inside and outside where the children are free to choose different activities such as a creative area, maths area, writing and construction as well as the water tray and sand pit – not to mention our fantastic role play and home corner!

In Reception we are very creative and love to build and construct 3D models! We would be grateful for any spare cereal boxes, cartons, yoghurt pots, egg boxes and toilet tubes you could bring in that we could use in our modelling!

Every day in Reception before home time we enjoy a whole class story and a snack of a plain digestive biscuit or breadstick. We would appreciate any of these snacks that you could bring in so that we can enjoy a snack with our story!

Our first topic in Reception is “Ourselves” and as the children settle into Reception we will be learning all about our family, our bodies and our interests. Our next topic will be a child initiated topic based on the children’s interests.

Reading homework will begin the week beginning 9th October and children will read one to one with an adult 4 times a week. Your child will have pages to read in their home-school reader and a new phonics sound to practice recognition and letter formation.

Please look out for our parent reading information sessions which will provide you with techniques to support your child with reading at home.

We also look forward to welcoming you into class every Thursday morning from 9-9.30 for our Parent Book Share. This is an opportunity to enjoy a book with your child in class, borrow a book from our class library and take part in modelled shared reading sessions. You will receive a half termly maths newsletter with suggestions for practical number and shape activities for you to do with your child at home.

It would be very helpful to bring a set of spare clothes for your child in Reception as we have lots of messy play, including sand and water. This is also for any toileting issues. The spare set of clothing does not have to be school uniform.

We are so excited about our new school year in Reception and have lots of fantastic things lined up to give your child a great experience at school!
