Y2 Miss Spillman

Welcome to 2SP!

Our class teacher is called Miss Spillman. We have a Learning Support Assistant in our classroom called Mrs. Bates and we are lucky to have Ms Newman who comes and reads with us and who takes some of us for interventions. In 2SP we love to learn, that is why we have Lionel the Learning Lion, who helps us with our shared language and who encourages us to be the best learners we can be. We also have Harriet the hedgehog who loves coming home with us when we do amazing handwriting. In our classroom we have lots of amazing areas: an underwater reading corner so we can read and enjoy different types of books; an art area so we can get creative; shop area where we can have fun learning about different coins; writing area where we can practice our super handwriting and write for different purposes and we have a Maths area where we can practice our number, shape and measuring skills in different ways. We also have lots of interactive displays where we can practice our times tables, our SPaG and phonics.

Our days are filled with lots of exciting lessons, including: Maths, Reading, English, R.E, Handwriting, Phonics, SPaG, Science, Computing (taught by Mr. Kearney), Music (taught by Ms Akintokin and P.E (taught by Mr Longstaff and Miss Spillman).

We do Topic every Friday in 2SP - we do lots of different things in Topic including Geography, History, English, Art and Design and Technology. We have sketch books in Year 2 which make us really concentrate on our Art skills. This term, our Topic will be ‘Adventures Ahoy’- we are all excited for our pirate dress up day! We will also be studying whole school topics including ‘Black History Week’ this term. Our Topic links closely with other curriculum studies, such as English and Maths. Throughout the year we will be going on trips and having workshops that will help us understand our Topics - information to follow.

We have P.E twice a week (taught by Mr Longstaff and Miss Spillman this term). We do P.E both outside and inside so we need to make sure we have the right kit. We can bring our P.E kits and leave them at school until half-term so that we don’t have to remember each week.

Our learning doesn't stop at school that is why we get homework. Our homework always relates to what we are learning in class, so it helps us a lot. We get spellings on Monday and we have to make sure we complete our spelling words every evening ready for our spelling test on Friday. We also get Maths homework which is set on Mathletics on Wednesday to be completed by Friday. We have special R.E project work which gets set every term. We also have to make sure we read every evening as we want to be super star readers.

In 2SP we are such super stars and Ready, Respectful, Safe role models in our school. We are kind, helpful and always try our best. We are very excited for our super year ahead!
