Welcome to Year 5B!
We are very much looking forward to a busy and exciting year in our classroom. This year, our Year 5 class teachers are Miss Stratton and Miss Bright. We are fortunate to also have our support staff, Mr Fletcher, Miss Henao and Mr Harney. Our additional Y5 teacher is Miss Bacon.
We have begun our topic learning this term, by exploring our school Mission Statement and the 3-5-7. Each class created their own class prayer, and identified what the Mission statement means within everyday lives. We are currently investigating the journey and formation of rivers, and the process of the water cycle! Our classes are very keen to begin designing and creating their own 3D water cycle model, and we would be grateful for any spare recycling boxes, that we could use! Throughout the year, we will be exploring a range topical learning, with a focus this term on Black History, time detectives, Wild Water and Noel. We have already had a fantastic afternoon at the Union Chapel, watching Fever Pitch, and we also have a River Cruise trip coming up on the 9th of November.
This year we have introduced our 'take home homework', which will be project based. Our first project will be centred around our RE topic - the Rosary. This will begin on Friday 6th October and be returned by Friday 20th October. We encourage pupils to be creative and imaginative, work will be displayed around the school.
During the Autumn Term, children will have swimming lessons every Wednesday afternoon, and PE lessons on a Thursday afternoon, so it is very important that they remember their kits each week. On Thursday afternoons as well, children will have Computing lessons with Mr Kearney. On Tuesday afternoons, the children will have recorder lessons with Miss Bacon. Children will need to remember to bring their recorders and folders with them for these lessons.
Our KS2 mass will be on Wednesday 1st November, the Feast of all Saints, and our first class assembly is on Monday 16th October on the theme of Wild Water,’
In Year 5 we love seeing our work displayed in the classroom, to aid and stimulate our learning. We aim to make the most of our time, in and around the school, and hope to have an exciting and successful year!
