Welcome to 5L!
Our class has an exciting and busy year ahead! 5L are a class of 30 children; our teacher is Mrs Langmore and Ms Windus is our Learning Support Assistant. We are also lucky enough to have Mrs Price to work with us in Maths and English. We are all looking forward to learning new things and experiencing the new challenges of Year 5.
Our Topics for this term until Christmas are Wild Water (where we will be learning about rivers and coasts), Black History, The World Through Different Eyes (art and artists) and Noel. Our Topic learning includes History, Geography, Art and Design and Technology and takes place every Friday. We look forward to presenting some of our Topic learning to parents at our Class Assembly on Monday 15th October!
Our RE topics for this term are the Mission Statement and Beginning with God. We will be focusing on how our Catholic beliefs can help to guide our actions, making links to Scripture and stories from the Bible. Our class mass, which we will be leading, is on Wednesday 7th November.
Our Science topic this half-term is Out of This World where we will be looking at outer space and finding out what is actually out there! In English, we will be focusing on the novel ‘Skellig’ and in Maths we will be focusing on developing our fluency in place value and the four operations.
English and spelling homework goes home on a Monday and Maths on a Wednesday; all of these are due in on Friday. In addition, we have a Reading Record which we are expected to complete daily. It is very important that we complete all homework on time in order for us to consolidate our classroom learning.
In the Autumn term, we will be having specialist Computing and PE lessons on Thursday, as well as Recorder lessons on Friday. We will also be going swimming on Wednesday afternoons, so it is very important that we bring the correct swimming kit every week.
Although it is the start of the year, we already have some exciting trips lined up, including Pizza Express, Wagamammas, the Postal Museum and the Royal Albert Hall.
We have settled well into Year 5 and are looking forward to the year ahead!
