Y6 Miss Stratton

Welcome to 6S!

We are very much looking forward to a busy and exciting year in our classroom. This year, our Year 6 class teachers are Miss Stratton and Mr. Rodrigo. We are fortunate to also have our support staff, Miss James, Miss Henao and Mr. Fletcher. Our additional Y6 teachers are Miss Patterson and Mrs. Brown.

This term, we have begun our religious learning by exploring our school Mission Statement and the 3-5-7. Each class has created their own class prayer, identified what the Mission statement means to them and explained how, as Catholics, we can live our lives by the Mission Statement. In Topic, we are beginning to explore the First World War, its historical context and relevance to modern day society. This is an area of history we pupils are extremely interested in, and links to our first literary novel, ‘Private Peaceful’. Our class are very keen to begin designing and creating our own 3D poppies, in remembrance of the Great War, and can’t wait to display them in and around the school. Throughout the year, we will be exploring a range topical learning, with a focus on Black History, Ancient Greece and a research topic exploring Hadrian’s Wall, The Berlin Wall and The Great Wall of China.

This year we will be continuing our R.E. ‘take home homework’, which will be project based. We will notify pupils when homework is due to commence. We encourage pupils to be creative and imaginative, as work will be presented in and around the school. Homework will continue on Mathletics and Reading Eggs: Maths is set on a Wednesday to be completed by Friday and English is sent out on a Monday to be completed by Friday.

This term, we are very fortunate to have Arsenal football coaches’ deliver P.E on a Monday afternoon. They will teach a range of invasion games and team building exercises. Also, Mr. Longstaff teaches P.E on a Friday. It is important that we remember to bring in our kits. Mr. Kearney also teaches computing on Friday.

Our KS2 mass will be on Wednesday 1st  November, the Feast of all Saints. On Monday 26th November, Y6S will be presenting their understanding of Advent to the school.

In Year 6 we love seeing our work displayed in the classroom, to aid and stimulate our learning. We aim to make the most of our time, in and around the school, and hope to have an exciting and successful final year!
