All the teachers in the school are teachers of children with Special Educational Needs.  As such Sacred Heart adopts a 'whole school approach' to SEND that involves all staff adhering to a model of good practice based on a Quality First Teaching model. The staff of the school are committed to identifying and providing for the needs of all children in a wholly inclusive environment.  Inclusion is given a high priority in this policy, in line with the policies of Islington Local Authority. ​

Supporting children and families with their social, emotional and mental health needs

Place2Be

Place2Be is working in Scared Heart! Place2Be is a national charity providing emotional support to children in schools.

How Place2Be helps pupils 

Pupils can find help with friendship issues and other worries by choosing to visit Place2Talk. Children can book to see a counsellor on their lunch or break time and attend on their own or in a group. Place2Be also works with children individually and in small groups, offering regular time-tabled support for those who will benefit most, working closely with parents and school staff. There is a dedicated Place2Be room inside the school where children can go to express and think about their worries, through talking, creative work and play. This helps children to find new ways of coping with difficulties so they don’t get in the way of friendships or learning.

Place2Be

Place2Be’s Parenting Smart is a new site for parents and carers of 4-11 year olds, offering practical advice on supporting your child and managing behaviour. All of the content is created by Place2Be’s parenting experts. It’s based on evidence and their experiences working with children, young people and their families. Designed with busy parents in mind, the site has short videos and articles on topics from meltdowns to bullying, from sleeping difficulties to encouraging self-confidence.

CAMHS

Islington Child and Adult Mental Health Service work in school every Tuesday morning. The children CAMHS support might be struggling with relationships at home, with peers or with teachers; they may have suffered from bereavement, lack of confidence, low self-esteem, stress or worries. They can also completed more specialist assessments for ADHD and autism. If you feel your child would benefit from support from CAMHS please speak to Miss Le Fleming.

Supporting children with Communication and interaction needs

At Sacred Heart we have two Speech Therapist, one for the Early Years and one for children aged over 5. Our Speech Therapists support children who have:

• difficulties expressing thoughts, ideas and needs
• difficulties understanding what others say e.g. instructions given in the classroom
• difficulties understanding social interaction and making friends
• difficulties articulating sounds clearly

They provide a variety of support such as direct individual or group work, support for staff and parents and training. If you feel your child needs support with their speech, language and communication please speak to Miss Le Fleming.

• Centre 404 Centre 404 can offer a range of high quality services to assist children and adults with a learning disability and their family carers, these include: direct support, information, respite, activities, advocacy, help with personal budgets and form filling, and access to social groups and other local networks.
