Living Things

This term, we will be looking at animals and habitats, the different ways we can classify and group animals and how they adapt to certain environments.

Today, we looked at what classification was and made our own classification keys in groups and then in our books.

After a couple of weeks spent learning how to identify and classify using classification keys, we then moved on to food chains. In pairs we made food chain mobiles identifying who the producer, prey, predators, primary, secondary and tertiary consumers were.

Electricity

Today, we learnt about the differences between mains and battery powered electric, answered some questions and sorted appliances into those that run on electricity and those that don't.

Today, we built circuits using light bulbs, motors and buzzers. We learnt the component names and how a circuit works.

This week, we looked at conductors and insulators of electricity and classified different materials as we tested them in groups.

Sound

Our first topic this term is sound!

Today, we completed our pre-assessment questions and facts! We looked at elastic bands, drums and vibrations, our voices and our bodies as sources of making sounds and recorded what we know about sounds and what we would like to know in future.

Today we used the data loggers to record the decibel reading for different sounds as we increased the distance we were from the sound source.
