Oh no! An alien spaceship has crash landed into our English learning! Who could be on board? We will be reading Beegu by Alexis Deacon over this half term, a story that explores themes of loneliness and friendship in new places. As a part of this we will be writing character descriptions and developing the skills involved in writing instructions. This topic will also link to our PSHE learning.
This term, we will begin exploring fractions through the concept of half as an equal part of a whole. To start, we will be finding half of everyday objects and shapes and then progress onto quantities and amounts. Following this, we will be building on our knowledge of British coins and notes as well as beginning to pay for things in a real life context using multiple coins.
This term’s focus is ‘From Lent to Easter’. We will be beginning to recognise the Stations of the Cross through a visit to our local parish church as well as in-class learning. The children will hear significant stories from the Bible relating to this time in the liturgical calendar, including the Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem, the Last Supper and the Death of Jesus according to Luke.
This term we will be continuing to group and classify plants through real-world experiences. We will be planting, observing and caring for our own tomato plants throughout the rest of the year. Alongside this, we will be partnered with a UK-based farmer who will help us to understand how plants are used in agriculture and how this impacts our everyday lives, which links to our DT and maths learning.
