English
Our focus texts this half term is related to our fantastic trip and to our history topic! We have started reading “Sir Scallywag and his Golden Underpants’ after visiting the Royal Festival Hall last term. We will be writing our own version of this exciting narrative and also focusing on character descriptions! We will then be looking at the Non-Fiction text ‘The Great Fire of London' and writing a detailed diary entry in role as the cat who witnessed the fire . This will help us form our non-chronological report on the event leading up to and within The Great Fire of London.
Maths
Our focus in maths this half term will be on multiplication and division as well as fractions . We will be looking at how we can approach multiplication , division and fractions using ’groups’ and ’sharing’. We will share different models for both topics with you so that you can support your children using the same methods that we do in school. Please continue to support your child with their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.
Science
Our Science topic this half term is Materials . We will be exploring different materials and their properties. We will then be testing out the suitability of materials and exploring why objects are made out of certain materials. We will then using this knowledge to design a new uniform for London.
RE
Our focus in RE this half term is ‘Lent to Easter’. Our learning in this Topic will focus on recognizing and describing the Stations of the Cross. We will then focus on re-telling different events which led up to Easter according to Luke’s Gospel. These events include the Entry to Jerusalem, the Last Supper and the Death of Jesus..
PE
We are super lucky this term as we have the ‘Non Stop Action’ team teaching us dance! We will focus on travelling, directions and balance . We then hope to put together a dance routine using all the techniques we have learnt .
Phonics
This term the school will be following a new phonics scheme called ‘Little Wandle Letters and Sound.’ As part of the new scheme we will continue to learn our Phase 5 sounds as there are alternative sounds which we have not yet looked at . We will stay in our own classrooms with our classroom teachers for phonics everyday and practice sounds and tricky word! In each reading folder you will find a tricky word bookmark, if possible please practice these tricky words at home with your child.
Topic
Our History Topic this half term is ‘London’s Burning'. We will be revisiting some of our previous learning about timelines to help understand the different events during the Great Fire of London. We will then be focusing on how London has changed over time by looking at significant places and examining sources wrote by historical people.
This term we are starting our DT topic of ‘London’s burning.’ We will be designing and making pulleys for buckets to help put out the Great Fire of London! We will be looking at other designs of pulleys and discussing what works well and what we could do better in our designs .
