Catholic Social Teaching
Catholic Social Teaching is an approach developed by the Catholic Church on matters of social justice. It emphasises principles such as human dignity, solidarity, community, peace and the common good. The teachings aim to guide our children and institutions in creating a just and compassionate society, addressing issues like poverty, inequality, and human rights, while promoting the well-being of all members of our local and global community.
At Sacred Heart, we define Catholic Social Teaching as 'Faith in action.' It is living out our beliefs through acting for others because we believe that this is what Jesus would do and we see many examples of this in scripture.
Each half term, we focus on a different aspect of Catholic Social Teaching following the 'Caritas: Rooted in Love' planning. As well as this, each year group has responsibility for one area. Each term, they complete an 'action focus' linked to their area of Catholic Social Teaching. By the time the children leave us in Year 6, they will have studied all six strands in depth and carried out many actions for others.
