RJED (Racial Justice, Equality and Diversity)
At Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, we are committed to promoting Racial Justice, Equality and Diversity (RJED) across all aspects of learning. Our subject leaders seek opportunities to make meaningful links to RJED with their planning, helping pupils understand its relevance through our curriculum.
In RE lessons, pupils explore different depictions of Jesus, Mary, and other religious figures from around the world, as well as a variety of religious festivals. They also experience workshops led by people of other faiths in line with Branch 6 of the RE curriculum. Focus texts in English further support pupils in understanding and celebrating cultural diversity. In Science, pupils have learnt about a wide range of scientists from diverse backgrounds and we will continue to review our curriculum this academic year to ensure that diverse backgrounds are represented in each subject.
Through these opportunities, children develop empathy, respect and an appreciation for different perspectives, helping them grow as socially aware, inclusive and thoughtful members of society.
Work in Art and English based on Katherine Johnson from the text 'Hidden Figures'.
