PSHE and RHSE
Personal, Social, Health and Economic education.
As a school, we loosely follow the Islington 'You Me PSHE' scheme of work and tailor lessons to our children and the needs of our community using lessons from Ten Ten and Kapow scheme of work. Lessons are adapted to the needs and age of our pupils and are in line with the Teaching of The Church. PSHE is delivered to all year groups and lessons focus on:
- Mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Keeping safe and managing risk
- Physical Health and wellbeing
- Drug, alcohol and tobacco education
- Identity, society and equality
- Careers, financial capability and economic wellbeing
- Relationships, Health and Sex Education is taught in Year 2, 4, 5 and 6
Zones of Regulation
Each year we explore the Zones of Regulation from Year 1-6 to explore our emotions and develop our emotional literacy. EYFS will explore naming emotions using the Colour Monster story and transition to Zones of Regulation. Parents can support their child's emotional literacy by becoming familiar with the Zones of Regulation. Please see the resources below for support.

RHSE (Relationships, Health and Sex Education
At Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Relationships, Health and Sex Education (RHSE) is an important part of our mission to educate the whole child. Rooted in our Catholic faith and values, RHSE helps children to develop positive relationships, understand their God-given dignity, and grow in confidence, respect and responsibility. It supports pupils in making healthy choices and developing the knowledge, skills and virtues needed to flourish in modern society.
Our RHSE curriculum is taught in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the statutory guidance issued by the Department for Education. Through age-appropriate lessons, children learn about friendship, family life, personal wellbeing, emotional health, online safety, and the importance of treating every person with love, compassion and respect.
As a Catholic school, we recognise that parents are the first and most important educators of their children. We work closely with families to ensure that RHSE is delivered in a supportive, sensitive and informed way, fostering strong partnerships between home and school.
Our approach to RHSE:
- Promotes the dignity and worth of every person as created in the image and likeness of God.
- Encourages respect, kindness, compassion and responsibility.
- Supports children’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual development.
- Is delivered in an age-appropriate manner that reflects children's stages of development.
- Helps pupils build healthy relationships and make safe, informed choices.
- Recognises and respects the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our school community.
Through RHSE, we aim to nurture confident, respectful and caring young people who are equipped to contribute positively to their communities and live out the Gospel values in their daily lives. We use the RHSE teaching programme from Ten Ten to support our teaching in school.
