Physical Education at Sacred Heart
At Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, our physical education curriculum aims to inspire children to lead healthy lifestyles and excel in sport and other physically demanding activities. PE is an integral part of our curriculum and we believe that it provides children the opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness throughout their lives. Therefore, we believe that our children should be physically active every day, whether through PE lessons, extra-curriculum activities, active play times or competitive sport.
Recently, we have subscribed to ‘PE Hub’ which is a high quality PE planning resource with fun and engaging lessons for the children to follow. PE Hub’s mission is to move PE forward by providing high quality, streamlined lesson planning that aims to develop children's skill development, learn cooperation and self-reflection, and develop a lifelong love of physical activity and sport- a mission that Sacred Heart also shares.
Children at Sacred Heart take part in a wide range of sports and we work closely with the community, as we have coaches from Arsenal and Islington Tennis Centre. Every year group receives a half term of coaching from each specialist and Years 3, 4 and 5 attend swimming classes throughout the year.
We also believe that children should have the opportunity to compete in sport and other activities that build character and help to embed values such as team work, fairness and respect. We have a range of teams that participate in competitions with our federated school Christ the King, the Maamulaha Schools’ Sports Events and the Islington Schools Competitions. Every summer, we hold school sports day as well.
Due to current government guidelines, children at Sacred Heart are not attending swimming and are being asked to come into school wearing their PE kits on the days they have PE.
