Reading

Summer 1- A Midsummer Night's Dream

In the summer term, we are going to be reading 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'!

We are very excited to read one of Shakespeare's plays!

We'll begin by refreshing our retrieval skills and finding information in the text as well as looking at the language used. Keep an eye out here to see what we have explored!

Spring 2- Leon and the Place Between

Over lockdown and in class, we have been reading extracts from the story and have been answering reading questions. We predicted what Leon would find in the box and used our inference skills to guess how the crowd felt when Abdul Kazam revealed the magical door! Our favourite part of the story was at the end when Leon's family finally believed in magic!

Spring 1- The Story of Tutankhamun!

In Spring 1, we are going to be learning all about the Ancient Egyptians! We'll be retrieving lots of information from non-fictions texts and inferring what Tutankhamun's life would have been like.

Did you know that Tutankhamun died at the age of 18 and his body was mummified? Also, he was nicknamed the 'Boy King' because he began his reign when he was only nine years old!

Autumn 2- The Iron Man!

This term, we have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Iron Man! We found it so exciting- especially when the space-bat-angel dragon came down from space and wanted to destroy earth! Whilst reading this book, we practised our retrieval skills an decoding skills. We even created a picture based on the text! Can you spot the descriptive methods that Ted Hughes used?

Autumn 1- The BFG!

This half term, we have been incredibly lucky to study Roald Dahl's book... The BFG! We thoroughly enjoyed reading about Giant Country and all the mischief that Sophie got up to! We thought it very funny that the BFG couldn't speak proper English so instead he made up his own words! For example: squiffling, pilfflefizz and jabbeling.

Inspired by Roald Dahl, we created some of our own nonsense words. What do you think?

Alix our Librarian!

Every other Monday, we have Alix our Librarian come into our classroom and read some books for us! She always makes us laugh with her silly voices for different characters and her choice of books!
