Reading

The Tin Forest by Helen Ward

This whole school text tells the tale of an old man who tidies the rubbish in a junkyard and dreams of a better place. We loved this book along with all of the beautiful illustrations that go with it.

Weslandia

This is an amazing picture book with a very important message. It teaches us to never judge other people and to embrace and celebrate what makes us different and unique. Wesley is a very talented person who has a natural gift for invention. This book taught us to ignore 'tormentors' when you know what you are doing is right and believe in yourself no matter what!

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis

This term we read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We really enjoyed learning about this land of talking animals and mythical creatures. Most of this book is set in Narnia, which has been ruled by the White Witch for 100 years of deep winter. Four children are relocated to a large, old country house following a wartime evacuation. The youngest child visits Narnia three times via the magic of a wardrobe in the spare room!

The Abominables

In our book, The Abominables we found out all about Lady Agatha and her adventures with the yeti's in Himalayan peaks of Nanvi Dar. A kidnap later and she finds out that yetis are actually very kind, noble and friendly creatures.

We did lots of work in our reading lessons sequencing the text, making predictions, inferring feelings and gathering evidence from the text.

Journey to Jo'burg

In our newest book, Journey to Jo'Burg, we have been studying language and using our new 'shades of meaning' cards to find new and better words to use in our explanations. We have predicted what will happen next in the journey .. we are excited to see what happens when Naledi and Tiro arrive Johannesburg ...

The Witches

We have been reading The Witches by Roald Dahl and we have made predictions as to what will happen to the little boy when he comes face to face with REAL witches! We inferred how the boy was feeling during these encounters and how grandmama felt about leaving Norway to come and live in England. Our retrieval skills have been tested too! We found evidence from the text to support our answers!
